Tiles are sorted by market cap within each cell; industries show their 16 largest names per column until expanded. Hover or tap a tile for the name, size, price and every horizon. Names without an SEC industry code sit under Other.
How Stock Map Works
- 1Start from the whole universeEvery symbol in our price universe with a common-stock or ADR share type is a candidate; funds, preferreds, warrants and units are left out. A name also needs a close within the last five sessions and at least a month of history.
- 2Classify by SEC industry codeEach company carries a Standard Industrial Classification code in its SEC filings. Our data provider supplies it for most names and the SEC filing index fills the rest. An editorial table maps the 444 codes to 11 sectors and about 80 industries a trader would recognise, and a short list of symbol overrides fixes the cases where the filing code misleads, such as the payment networks filing as business services.
- 3Size by current share countMarket cap is the provider's current share-class share count multiplied by our latest committed close. Mega is $200 billion and up, Large $10 billion, Mid $2 billion, Small $300 million, Micro below that. A share count that is refreshed monthly cannot be caught on the wrong side of a split.
- 4Colour by returnPick a horizon: one day, one week, one month, three months, year to date or one year. Each tile takes one of seven colours on a fixed scale for that horizon, so a shade means the same thing every day. Industry and sector headers show the median return and the count.
