Crypto Trend Health

The Crypto Trend Health dashboard answers one question every morning: is the crypto market broadly healthy, which coins are leading, which are breaking down, and what changed today? Each of the 5 single-coin spot crypto ETFs is placed by its actual distance from the 50-day and 200-day moving averages, with regime classification, aggregate breadth, daily transitions, and a rotation watchlist — benchmarked against the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index. Coins whose ETF has under 200 trading sessions show as “unknown” until they accrue a 200-day average.

Today's reading

As of market close on June 24, 2026, crypto trend health is RISK-OFF at 0/100 (risk-off, flat). Risk-Off, narrowing. 0 of 5 ETFs are above their 50-day average; 0 of 5 above their 200-day. 50-day participation has contracted 20 percentage points over the last 20 sessions. Weak pocket: IBIT, ETHA, XRPI.

Put the crypto read in context

Pair crypto trend health with Crypto Relative Strength (which coins are leading the market) and Crypto Performance (absolute returns). For the broad risk backdrop, check Credit Spreads and the Leveraged ETF Sentiment gauge — crypto is the market’s highest-beta risk asset, so it often turns with broad risk appetite.

How Crypto Trend Health Works

  1. 1
Pull daily closes for the major coins via spot ETFs
Each trading day after the close we read closing prices for one clean 1x spot ETF per coin: Bitcoin (IBIT), Ethereum (ETHA), Solana (BSOL), XRP (XRPI) and Litecoin (LTCC). The Bitwise 10 Crypto Index (BITW) is the market benchmark.
  2. 2
Compute 20-day, 50-day and 200-day SMAs per coin
For each coin we compute the simple moving averages and check whether today's close is above or below each. Above the 50-day = short/intermediate-term uptrend; above the 200-day = long-term uptrend. The combination defines the coin's regime.
  3. 3
Classify each coin into one of four regimes
Strong = above both 50d and 200d (uptrend confirmed). Weakening / Pullback = above 200d but below 50d. Recovery = below 200d but above 50d. Weak = below both (downtrend confirmed). Coins whose ETF has fewer than 200 trading sessions (Solana and Litecoin listed in late 2025) show as "unknown" until they accrue a 200-day average.
  4. 4
Score crypto health and surface the daily tone
The hero card combines % above 20d / 50d / 200d into a 0-100 health score and labels the level (Healthy / Mixed / Fragile / Risk-Off). A separate tone line — broadening, cooling, deteriorating, stabilizing or steady — is derived from the 1-day vs 20-day change in 50d-MA breadth.
  5. 5
Place every coin on the regime map, with watchlists and history
The signature visual is a four-quadrant scatterplot placing each coin by its distance from the 50d (X) and 200d (Y) MAs. A Rotation Watchlist surfaces coins closest to breaking out or down, testing the 50d, overextended, and the fastest improvers/deteriorators. A breadth-history chart stacks the Bitwise index price over per-regime counts.

Who Uses Crypto Trend Health

Crypto Traders
A quick read on whether the crypto tape is broadly trending or just one or two coins carrying it. Strong breadth (most coins above their 50d) supports trend-following; thin breadth warns of a fragile move.
Swing Traders
Watch regime transitions — Recovery → Strong is a frequent setup for a coin reclaiming its trend; Weakening → Weak is a defensive signal in a name you hold.
Risk Managers
Crypto is the market's highest-beta risk asset. A crypto-wide shift to Weak/Risk-Off often coincides with broader risk-off and is worth pairing with credit and volatility gauges.
Rotation Watchers
When the alts (SOL, XRP, ETH) move to Strong while Bitcoin lags, leadership is broadening down the risk curve — the classic alt-season pattern.

Pro Tips

01
Breadth over price
A crypto rally where only Bitcoin is above its 50d is narrower — and more fragile — than one where all five coins are. Read the % above 50d, not just BTC.
02
Track regime transitions
A coin that just flipped to Strong today carries more information than one that's been Strong for months. Today's transitions are flagged with a cyan ring on the regime map and a "↻ today" tag in the table.
03
50d is tactical, 200d is strategic
The 50-day says where the swing trend is; the 200-day is the line that matters for position trades. Both below = a confirmed crypto downtrend.
04
Mind the young coins
Solana, XRP and Litecoin ETFs listed recently, so their 200-day regime may read "unknown" for now. The picture fills in as they accrue history — until then, lean on the 50-day for those names.

Common Issues & Solutions

Why are some coins marked "unknown"?
A coin is unknown when its 200-day MA can't be computed yet — its spot ETF has fewer than 200 trading sessions. Solana, XRP and Litecoin listed in 2025, so they fill in over time. Bitcoin and Ethereum (2024) have full regime classification.
These are ETF prices, not 24/7 crypto prices
The spot ETFs track each coin's USD price but only trade during US market hours, so overnight and weekend crypto moves appear at the next US session. The moving-average regimes use these ETF closes.
Why only five coins?
We track one clean 1x spot ETF per coin and only include coins that have one (leveraged 2x funds are screened out). As more single-coin spot ETFs list, the universe grows — and the breadth read gets richer.
Why benchmark to the Bitwise index?
BITW (the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index Fund) is the closest thing crypto has to an S&P 500 — a cap-weighted basket of the ten largest coins. It is the market spine the breadth-history chart plots against.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is crypto trend health?
A breadth read on the crypto market: how many of the major coins are trending up versus down, using the % above their 50-day and 200-day moving averages plus a four-state regime per coin (Strong / Weakening / Recovery / Weak). Broad participation is a healthier, more durable trend than one carried by Bitcoin alone.
Which coins are tracked?
Bitcoin (IBIT), Ethereum (ETHA), Solana (BSOL), XRP (XRPI) and Litecoin (LTCC), each via a clean 1x US-listed spot ETF, benchmarked to the Bitwise 10 Crypto Index (BITW).
What are the four regimes?
Strong = above both the 50-day and 200-day MAs. Weakening = above 200d but below 50d. Recovery = below 200d but above 50d. Weak = below both. The four-state model captures the full trend cycle better than a binary up/down.
Why do some coins show "unknown"?
A coin needs 200 trading sessions to have a 200-day moving average. Solana, XRP and Litecoin spot ETFs listed in 2025, so they classify as unknown until they accrue enough history; Bitcoin and Ethereum (2024) are fully classified.
How is the health score calculated?
A transparent weighted average of the % of coins above each MA: 40% × (% above 50d) + 40% × (% above 200d) + 20% × (% above 20d). Thresholds: 70-100 Healthy, 50-70 Mixed, 30-50 Fragile, 0-30 Risk-Off.
How often is it updated?
Daily after the US market close, from the same spot-ETF closes that power the Crypto Performance and Crypto Relative Strength tools. All MAs and regimes reflect the most recent close.
