Every print of the order as it crossed the tape, in the time-and-sales layout. Prices in green printed at the ask, in red at the bid. Delta and implied volatility are solved from each print's own price against SPY at $769.22 (Black-Scholes, fed funds, no dividend), so they differ slightly from a broker's. Totals weight price and quote by size. "Read" is our reading of the side, explained next.

02

What most likely happened

At 16:05 ET, 9,442 Nov 20 732 puts and 9,442 Nov 20 730 puts traded together in one order across 6 exchanges, the same size on every leg: one trader, one decision.

Likely read. A trader bought a put spread only two strikes wide, thousands of times over, just after the cash close. A spread that narrow works like a binary option: it pays its full width if SPY ends below the lower strike on the November expiry and nothing if SPY stays above the upper one, so the price paid is close to the market's odds of that drop. Buying it at the offer says the trader thinks those odds are too low. It gives almost no protection beyond the lower strike, which is why it reads as a bet on a pullback rather than portfolio insurance. It lands on the same expiry and the same view as the QQQ put ratio logged earlier the same day: a modest pullback by November, not a crash.

The evidence. Most of the order paid at or above the spread's offer, and on every exchange the upper put printed at or above its ask while the lower put printed at its bid or the midpoint. The order filled 10% of the way from the price at which the read's initiator crosses the whole quote (−$191K) to the price at which they are paid it (−$154K): below the midpoint, which supports the read.

The other read. A trader who had sold this put spread earlier bought it back above the offer, closing a bet that SPY would hold up. The next open-interest count at the two strikes settles it.
