Latest reading
As of August 17, 2026, Diesel (On-highway diesel ($/gallon)) stands at $5.45 — up from $5.26 the prior reading, 6.1% below the June 20, 2022 record of $5.81. Retail diesel follows wholesale ULSD with a lag of a week or two and a damped amplitude. It matters beyond the pump: diesel is the marginal cost of moving goods, so a diesel spike shows up in trucking rates, food prices and PPI before it reaches CPI. Compare it with retail gasoline — a wide diesel premium is the consumer-visible echo of a distillate shortage. Series history runs from 1994 to present.
